Submitting a project inquiry

An inquiry is how every Tailore project begins: you tell a studio what you want, and they respond with questions or a proposal. This article shows where to start one, what the form asks, and what to expect after you send it.

Where to start an inquiry

You can open an inquiry from three places. On a listing you like, select Start inquiry about this design. On a studio's profile, select Start inquiry. Some studios also accept ideas outside their published listings - on those profiles you'll see Start a custom inquiry.

You need to be signed in to send an inquiry; the form opens right after you sign in. Not sure who to ask yet? Browse designers or read Choosing the right designer first.

Filling in the form

The Start inquiry dialog says it plainly: "Share your project details and we'll send your inquiry to the studio." Here is what it asks, in order.

  1. Choose a listing

Pick one of the studio's published listings, or choose "Not sure yet / Something else" if your idea doesn't match one.

  2. Say who the piece is for

Yourself, or someone else - if it's for someone else, add their name.

  3. Describe what you are looking for

The What are you looking for? field takes a short headline, like the placeholder suggests: "Wedding reception dress, bridal fitting, custom suit...".

  4. Set your need-by date

The Need-by date asks: "When would you like the finished piece ready or delivered?" Past dates are refused, and a tight date may show a soft lead-time warning.

  5. Pick a budget range

Budget or expected spend offers chips: Under $500, $500-$1,000, $1,000-$2,000, $2,000-$5,000, $5,000+, Not sure, or Custom range.

  6. Enter your delivery location

City, optional region, and country - "Where the finished piece should go. This decides which delivery options are available." You are never asked for your street address at this point.

  7. Choose delivery and materials preferences

Answer How would you prefer to receive the finished piece? ("The studio will confirm the final fulfillment method, cost, and timing in your proposal.") and How will fabric and materials be handled? - "You can change your mind while you talk it through."

  8. Write your message and attach images

The Message is your brief, up to 4000 characters - it becomes the first message in your conversation with the studio. Reference images (optional) takes up to 4 images, 10 MB each.

Sending it

Select Send inquiry. The footer under the button confirms what happens: "Your message will be sent to the designer to start your inquiry." You'll see an "Inquiry sent" banner, and the project appears at the Inquiry stage, marked "Awaiting proposal".

If the studio can't deliver to your location

You may see: "This studio can't deliver to that location. Try a different delivery country, or message the studio about other options." Double-check the delivery country, or pick a studio whose delivery options cover you.

After you send

The studio reviews your inquiry and usually replies in the conversation or sends a proposal - see Reviewing a proposal. You can withdraw an inquiry at any time, and the studio may decline if the project isn't a fit.

Tailore does not send automatic reminders to studios. If nothing happens after a couple of days, send a follow-up message in the conversation, or explore other designers.
