How Tailore works for clients
Tailore connects you with independent designer studios for custom and made-to-order clothing. This article explains where everything happens, how pricing and payments work, and who is responsible for what.
Independent studios, one platform
Every studio on Tailore is an independent designer business. You commission work directly from them - custom pieces designed for you, or made-to-order pieces from their existing designs (the difference is explained in Custom vs. made-to-order). Tailore provides the place where the whole project happens.
Once a studio takes on your project, everything lives in one project workspace: your messages, the proposal, payments, measurements and delivery. Nothing important happens off to the side, and Keeping communication on Tailore explains why that protects you.
Pricing and payments
There are no fixed price tags for custom work - pricing is per project. The studio sends a proposal with the price, payment schedule and delivery details, and nothing is binding until you approve it. Approving accepts the project scope, price, payment schedule, delivery details, and applicable policies, and work begins after any required initial payment is received.
Payments run through Tailore.
You pay securely by card through Stripe, inside the project, following the schedule you approved - nothing is ever charged automatically. The details are in Paying a project deposit and the Payment Policy.
Consultations and fittings are bookable appointments: the studio proposes up to 3 times, you confirm one, and you get a reminder the day before. There is no fee for them through Tailore.
Measurements and delivery
When the studio needs your measurements, it requests them and you enter them in the project. Only you and the studio can see them, and any measurement photos stay private - see Submitting measurements.
Delivery follows whatever the proposal agreed: shipping, local pickup, or an in-person handoff. You share your exact delivery address only when the studio requests it, never at inquiry. When your piece arrives you confirm receipt, then confirm completion to close the project - after that a 30-day review window opens. Delivery, pickup and completion walks the last mile.
Who does what
| Role | Responsibilities |
|---|---|
| You | Describe what you want, review and approve the proposal, pay on the approved schedule, provide measurements when requested, and confirm receipt and completion. |
| The studio | Sets the price and payment schedule, makes your piece, keeps you updated in the project thread, and delivers it as agreed in the proposal. |
| Tailore | Hosts the project workspace, processes card payments through Stripe, and provides the reporting and support routes when something goes wrong. |
If something goes wrong
Use Report an issue on the project - it pauses completion, delivery and payment requests while the problem is worked out (Reporting a project issue). If the project cannot continue, a cancellation request sets out the refund outcome - see Cancellations and refunds. For anything else, contact support.
