Getting started as a client

This overview walks the whole client journey: finding a designer, starting an inquiry, approving a proposal, paying the deposit, and following your project through to delivery and review.

Before you begin

You can explore Tailore without an account: designers, the Shop, studio profiles and listings are all public. An account only becomes necessary when you want to inquire, message a studio, or pay - Creating a Tailore account takes about a minute when you are ready.

Tailore accounts are for adults.

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract to create a Tailore account or transact through it. An adult may order clothing for a minor and provide their measurements when they have the authority to do so. The full rule is in the Terms of Service.

The journey, start to finish

  1. Find a designer or a design

Browse studios on designers or specific pieces in the Shop. Browsing designers and Choosing the right designer cover what to look for.

  2. Start an inquiry

Sign in and tell the studio what you want made - the piece, your timeline, and anything they should know. See Submitting a project inquiry and What information to include.

  3. Talk it through

The studio replies in your project thread. Many projects start with a conversation or a bookable consultation appointment before anything is priced.

  4. Approve the proposal

The studio sends a proposal with the scope, price, payment schedule and delivery details. Approving accepts all of it, so read it carefully - Reviewing a proposal explains each part.

  5. Pay the deposit

The first scheduled payment starts the work. You pay securely by card through Stripe, right inside the project - see Paying a project deposit.

  6. Follow the project

Production updates arrive in the same thread. If the studio needs your measurements, it requests them and you enter them in the project - see Following project progress and Submitting measurements.

  7. Receive your piece

Delivery happens by shipping or local pickup, whichever the proposal agreed. Delivery, pickup and completion covers what to check on arrival.

  8. Confirm completion

Once you have your piece and are happy with it, confirm receipt and then confirm completion to close the project.

  9. Leave a review

You can review the studio for 30 days after completion. Reviews are double-blind for up to 14 days, so neither side sees the other's words before writing their own.

If something comes up

Every project has a Report an issue action that pauses completion, delivery and payment requests while things get sorted out - see Reporting a project issue. Cancellations and refunds have their own process in Cancellations and refunds, and you can always contact support.
