Managing visibility and availability
Control where your studio appears and how new work reaches you. Visibility, inquiry intake, custom requests, and direct messages are four separate switches.
Studio visibility
Studio visibility in your Studio profile has two settings. Public means "Your studio appears in search, Shop, and designer discovery." Direct link only means "Your studio stays out of search and discovery. Anyone with your studio link can still view it." Note that direct link only is not private - the profile stays viewable by anyone who has the link.
Being set to Public is necessary but not sufficient for discovery. To appear in search, Shop, and designer discovery, your studio also needs to be active and in good standing, have payouts ready, have at least one published listing, and have at least 3 portfolio photos - the editor says "Add at least 3 portfolio photos before making your studio publicly discoverable."
Going public requires payouts
Until payout setup is done, the editor shows "Finish setting up payouts to make your studio public. A public studio needs to be able to take payments." with a Set up payouts link. If Tailore payments are not available in your country yet, your studio cannot appear in public discovery - you can keep sharing your direct studio link with clients in the meantime.
Accepting new inquiries
The Accepting new inquiries switch is a separate axis from visibility: "Allow clients to start new Tailore projects from your studio profile. When off, your studio can remain visible, but clients cannot start a new inquiry. Existing projects continue normally." Use it when you are fully booked but still want to be found.
While the switch is off, visitors to your profile see the notice "This studio is not currently accepting new Tailore projects."
Custom requests and direct messages
The Custom requests switch - "Accept inquiries for designs not shown in my listings" - adds a Start a custom inquiry button to your public profile, for clients with their own idea or reference images. When it is off, clients can still start an inquiry from any of your listings.
The Direct messages switch controls whether clients can open a chat before starting a project. When it is off, clients can still start inquiries - they cannot open a chat first. Messaging is independent of both inquiry intake and payout status.
Reading your status
Your dashboard summarizes the combined effect of these switches in one status label:
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Accepting new projects | Your studio is visible and can receive new inquiries. |
| Not taking new projects | Your profile remains visible, but new inquiries are paused. |
| Direct link only | Hidden from discovery. People with your link can still start inquiries. |
| Studio paused | Shown while your studio is paused. |
Pausing intake or hiding your studio is different from leaving Tailore. If you want to close your studio or your account, see Closing your account.
