Understanding account eligibility
Tailore accounts are for adults, and a few other rules apply before you can transact. This article covers the age requirement, how to order for a minor responsibly, and where clients can sign up.
You must be 18 or older
Every Tailore account belongs to an adult. The Terms of Service state the rule in full:
From the Terms of Service, section 3
"You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract to create an account, submit or accept a project proposal, receive payouts, or otherwise transact through Tailore. An adult may order clothing for a minor and may provide a minor's measurements or other information only when the adult has authority to do so."
The age requirement covers everything an account can do - creating the account, sending or accepting a proposal, and paying or being paid. There is no separate teen or supervised account type. Once you are eligible, Getting started as a client walks you through your first project.
Ordering for a minor
You can absolutely order custom clothing for your child or another minor in your care - the adult holds the account, places the order, and may provide the minor's measurements or other information only when the adult has authority to do so.
Protect the minor's privacy and safety
The Community Standards (section 11) require anyone involving a minor in a project to protect the minor's privacy and safety. Do not publish a minor's contact information, school, precise location, or unnecessarily revealing photographs.
- Share only the measurements and details the project actually needs - the [Privacy Policy](/legal/privacy-policy) asks: "Do not submit information that is unnecessary for the project."
- Keep the minor's contact information, school and precise location out of messages, photos and reviews.
- Choose reference photos carefully - nothing unnecessarily revealing.
A few other rules
The Terms of Service add one more restriction: "You may not use the Service if you are prohibited from doing so under applicable law, are subject to sanctions that bar the transaction, or have previously been suspended or removed from Tailore unless we give written permission."
Buying on behalf of a business is fine too: "If you use Tailore for a company or other organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization." You do not need a company to be a client - an individual account is the normal case.
Where clients can sign up
There is no country list for clients. You can generally sign up and order from anywhere, as long as local law and the payment provider allow the transaction. Designer payout availability does vary by country, but that limits where designers can be paid out - it does not restrict where clients can order from.
